Chuumon Shiyouze! Oretachi no Sekai (Japan)
There are a lot of great games, cult classics, and hidden gems in the PlayStation Portable library. But not many are as ambitious, unique, or completely out of reach for people in the West as Chuumon Shiyouze! Oretachi no Sekai. This title is only available in Japan, and it’s not just a game; it’s a game creation suite. It means “Let’s Order! Our World,” and it lives up to its name by giving players the tools to make their own 2D retro-style RPGs and Shoot ’em ups (shmups).
This creative powerhouse was stuck behind a big language barrier for years. Thanks to the PPSSPP emulator and the hard work of fan translators, this lost world of creation is finally open for exploration today. This is the story of Oretachi no Sekai and why you can only play it on PPSSPP.
What Is Oretachi no Sekai?
Think of a simpler, more portable version of RPG Maker combined with a classic 2D shmup builder. G-Mode made this game, which is a powerful toolkit that looks like a fun, old-school adventure.
There are two main parts to the game: playing and making.
The RPG Creator
This is what makes the game what it is. Oretachi no Sekai gives you a lot of tools to make your own classic JRPG.
- Making Maps: Using a tile-based system, you can paint your own world maps, towns, and dungeons.
- Sprite Editor: The game has a surprisingly detailed pixel editor that lets you make your own heroes, villains, monsters, and items. *Writing Events: You can make a story, quests, and shops by putting NPCs in the game and setting up simple event flags and dialogue trees.
- Combat in Turns: With a classic turn-based battle system, you can make your own monsters, set their stats, and put them in places where they can be fought.
The Shmup Creator
The game has a separate mode for making vertical-scrolling shoot ’em ups, in addition to the full RPG creator. You can make your own player ship, enemy sprites, and attack patterns, and then make levels that are hard and have bosses at the end.
In 2008, it was a “dream game” for any creative player because they could change it forever. But for people who didn’t live in Japan, it was a dream they couldn’t understand.
The Great Wall: An Impenetrable Language Barrier
Oretachi no Sekai is not an easy action game where you can just “feel” your way through. It is a complicated tool for making things, and the interface is all in Japanese. Every button, menu, tutorial, and logic command is written in a lot of kanji, hiragana, and katakana.
This made the game impossible to play for people who didn’t speak Japanese. It was a digital “black box” with a lot of creative potential that was locked up forever… until emulators.
PPSSPP: The Key to Unlocking ‘Our World’
This is where the PPSSPP emulator comes in and saves the day. It doesn’t just play the game; it breaks down the language barrier in a number of important ways to make the impossible possible.
1. The Fan Translation Patch
This is the most important thing of all. The romhacking community has made English menu patches for Oretachi no Sekai thanks to dedicated fans. These patches aren’t perfect, but they do translate the most important parts of the UI, like the main menus, the tools for making things, and the key commands.
What do you do with this? You can’t put a patch on a UMD disc or a PSP. You need to have the game’s .ISO file on your computer, use a different patching tool to apply the patch file, and then make a new, translated .ISO. The only way to play this new, English-friendly version of the game is with the PPSSPP emulator.
2. Save States: Your Ultimate Trial-and-Error Tool
A lot of deeper functions and conversations are still not translated, even with a patch. This is when PPSSPP’s “Save State” feature comes in handy.
- Menu Exploration: If you don’t know what a button does, press “Save State.” Did it do what you wanted? No? State of the Load.
- Creative “Undo”: You can make a save state before you make a big change to your sprite or game map. It works like a “undo” button that the original game didn’t have.
- Writing: This trial-and-error method is very important when “scripting” events because it lets you test your logic without worrying about ruining your whole project.
3. High-Resolution Creation
Oretachi no Sekai is a game with pixel art. These pixels might look blurry on the original PSP’s 480x272 screen. Any pixel artist will love PPSSPP’s options for upscaling and filtering textures.
- Sharp Pixels: You can play the game at 4K, 1440p, or 1080p. “Nearest Neighbor” texture filtering gives you perfectly sharp, clear pixels. This makes your sprite creations look clean and precise on a big screen.
- Improved Work Area: PPSSPP lets you play on a big PC monitor or tablet, which gives you a much bigger and more comfortable “canvas” to work on than the original 4.3-inch PSP screen.
The Verdict
Chuumon Shiyouze! Oretachi no Sekai is not a game that everyone will like. It takes a lot of time and is very specific. It’s for the person who loves to tinker, be creative, and dream about making their own 16-bit world.
For more than ten years, most of the world forgot about this amazing tool. PPSSPP, along with the hard work of fan translators, has brought this game back from the dead. It turns a Japanese novelty that can’t be played into one of the most unique, deep, and rewarding “maker” games you can find in the whole PSP library.
